Conquest of Everest

The triumphant story of the 1953 British Everest Expedition. The extreme conditions of extraordinary cold, fierce winds, thin air and sudden storms on Everest's upper slopes proved too much for the best climbers in the world. All early attempts failed and many died in the effort. The Conquest of Everest is a thrilling documentary that tells the story. Amazing footage from the treacherous Khumbu icefall on up to the wind blown upper reaches of the mountain as the British team prepares for the final assault. Succeeding just days before Queen Elizabeth II's coronation, Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay became living legends and their conquest of Everest remains on of the great adventure stories of all time.

Participating in "No Historical Backspin" Antifascist Benefit
Right now, in Holland, such strange bedfellows as hooligans, queers, neo-cons and feminists are forced to unite to fight religious fascism carelessly imported from abroad... In Eastgermany's Saxonia however, events seems to be less confusing: Victim and aggressor still know their place and don't morph or fluctuate in such a politically uncorrect manner as they do in the Netherlands: Fascists are white, their ideology is racial, not religious, and their victims are blameless "foreigners", preferably coloured. (But as there are hardly any of those in Eastern Germany, xenophobia already plays a part in the attitude towards people from the next town..) In places like historical Pirna -the famous town of the Cnaletto painting- a straightforward hatred of anything different rules, ideologically simplistic in comparison to the dutch situation.
