December 7, 1941: The Day of Infamy, when the Imperial Japanese fleet attacked the naval base at Pearl Harbor; this was the attack. On August 6, 1945, the U.S. Air Force dropped the first atomic bomb on the city of Hiroshima; this was the reprisal.
