Alcatraz

It's been called "The Island of No Return" and "The Devil's Island." But whatever name it goes by, this notorious parcel of land in San Francisco Bay is best known as the prison that housed the toughest criminals in the nation. Al Capone spent time there. So did Machine Gun Kelly and Frank Morris and Bob Stroud--"the Birdman of Alcatraz." The stories of these men and others who spent time in this infamous penitentiary are told in this fascinating and brutal documentary. Included in "Alcatraz" are scenes of "The Battle of Alcatraz" (1946), "Escape from Alcatraz" (1962), and the "Seizure of Alcatraz" by American Indians (late 1960's). Over 2,000,000 people have visited Alcatraz since it was turned over to the National Park Service in 1973.
