Search for Battleship Bismarck
On May 27, 1941, the Bismarck, the German Navies most powerful vessel, was pursued and sunk by British forces. The Bismarck plunged into waters nearly 3 miles deep, taking with it more than 2,000 lives. A half a century later, explorer/scientist, Dr. Robert D. Ballard, discoverer of the sunken S.S. Titanic, searched and located the sunken ship on June 8, 1989, 600 miles off the coast of France. In this program we look back, at the first and last mission of the Bismarck and talk with survivors of this World War II battle between Germany and Britain revealing exclusive footage of this remarkable undersea exploration.
