My Second Life: East German Women in a Changed World

The collapse of socialism in East Germany meant the loss of a giant support system which had enables 91% of women to be employed. Today there is a widespread notion that women are the losers of the reunification. Yet interviews with these very women show a surprisingly wide spectrum of responses to the changes in their lives, proving that a story is never as black and white as newspaper headlines may appear.
