Sacred Sites: Prehistoric Monuments of Europe

This program documents some of the most imposing testimonials to human history in Europe: the avenues of megaliths at Carnac in Brittany, which are presumed to have been a celestial observatory; nearby, the mysterious royal tomb at Gavrinis with its giant fingerprints, and the temple beneath the sea on the isle of Er-Lanic; in Corsica, the oldest sculptures in Europe; the nuraghens in Sardinia, once thought to be giant fortifications now believed to be shrines of sun worshipers and an ingenious system of communication; and the oldest European temples as well as underground labyrinths for the dead, located on the islands of Malta Gozo.
