Latino Art & Culture

A 27-minute video, subtitled in Spanish, presents contemporary Latino artists from three communities in the U.S. talking about themselves and their work. The video includes centuries-old traditions in the Southwest and the experience of recent migrations from the Caribbean and Central America. A 68-page bilingual study guide provides background information for thematic units from the Spanish colonial period to the present, stressing regional differences. Activities encourage students to link Latino artworks with historical events and contemporary issues in this country.
