Learning Plectrum Banjo by Buddy WachterThis is essentially the same lesson as "Learning Tenor Banjo," making use of the longer-necked, mellower plectrum model. The plectrum banjo is tuned C, G, B, D (like a 5-string). Because of its longer scale, the tone tends to be deeper and richer, better suited to solo playing. (The tenor model has a shorter neck and a higher, sharper sound, good for cutting through other instruments in a band situation.) Four-string players tend to be fiercely devoted to one type of banjo or the other because of these differences.
