Why Geography?

Dispels the myth that geography is limited to the study of maps, mountain ranges, and capitals. Instead, it reveals geography as a broad and diverse field and traces its connections to science, history, politics, economics, religion, urban development, immigration, and culture. Beginning the twelve-day journey in the small mining town of Ely, Nevada, the host follows the trail of a giant "W", visiting such places as Las Vegas, Hoover Dam, The Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, Mesa Verde, Santa Fe, and Denver. This traveling classroom includes interviews with geologists, engineers, climatologists, cartographers, architects and historians who explore the broad scope of this field and provide insight into career opportunities.
