Make a Basket from a Tree

Estel Youngblood is a third generation Appalachian basket maker. Join him as he demonstrates his craft and shares his folksy anecdotes at a basketry workshop in California. Starting with white oak logs which were brought with him from Tennessee, you will watch the splitting of the log, whittling the ribs, splitting out the handle, tying the bow to attach the handle to the rim, splitting the weaver strands, and the weaving of the basket.
