Jerry doesn't have a job and Becky, his wife, takes in laundry. Their daughter, Amy, tapes a poster made in school to the dashboard of Jerry's truck. The poster uses the first letters Jesus, others, and you spell out "joy". Jerry picks up a hitch-hiker, Roger, who is also looking for work. They talk about Amy's poster and the real world. yet, in the end, each man is led to work for the benefit of others.
