Along the Pocahontas District

Travel to southern West Virginia to the busy double-tracked Norfolk Southern main line known as the "Pokey". Coal is still king in these parts. Strings of hoppers are topped off with this precious commodity. Helper engines are a necessity on heavy ore drags laboring eastbound. Eighteen tunnels bore through the ridges. On the Pokey, the obstacles are met with ingenuity and brute railroading horsepower.
