Needlelace with Vima MicheliAll you need is a needle, various thread & an embroidery hoop to get started. Needlelace is similar to Battenberg lace, in that you have a perimeter border to your design. You work a basic backstitch outline which is stitched through the cloth. Then, you fill the interior with a variety of stitches, based on the detached buttonhole stitch. The stitches that make the "lace" are worked above the fabric and connected to the perimeter stitches as you stitch. You'll learn the back stitch, sheath stitch, closed buttonhole, whipped eyelet, knotted Venetian, twisted crested chain, picot and buttonhole edging with a picot. Medallion shapes were chosen for the video lessons because they are an easy way to get started and can quickly & easily be adapted to other shapes. Vima has an international reputation as a needlelace expert and as a result you'll quickly be making beautiful lace. Her tips on material preparation, stitching & finishing will enable you to successfully do needlelace work on fabric & clothing!
