Horse Trials 1This tape assumes that the horse is educated at least to the levels described at the end of Basic Flatwork 2 and Basic Jumping 2. Captain Phillips explains the particular problems faced by the Horse Trails competitor and advises on the selection of a suitable horse. The development of the cross-country seat is explained in detail as are exercises designed to accustom the horse to traveling easily over uneven country. The horse's introduction to cross-country obstacles is examined at length with particular attention being paid to: water, bank and steps, drop fences, ditches and slides. General consideration regarding fitness and preparation for a One-Day Event are discussed as is the actual event itself including warm-up and dressage, walking the cross- country and showjumping.
