Among the major air battles covered are: "Ploesti" the Romanian refineries that supplied one-third of Hitler's oil reserves were ferociously defended by the Nazis. A savage 3 day assault by 600 bombers finally destroyed them. "Pantelleria" more bombs were dropped on this tiny island off Africa than hit London during the blitz. This was the first fortress to ever fall from the sheer strength of air power alone. "Schweinfurt & Regensburg" these aviation factories were smashed by the largest bomber missions in Air Force history. The battles cost the Allies more than 60 bombers, but over 350 Nazi fighter planes were downed.
