Compostella: The Next Step

Santiago de Compostella, the place where St. James, the apostle, performed his miracles, was the main focus for pilgrimage in the Middle Ages. Millions of people have traveled on foot for months to Compostella, "the field of stars" and resting place of the tomb of St. James. Dutch sociologist and author Herman Vuysje questions the historical basis for Compostella as a focus for worship, especially since it is highly improbable that the apostle ever visited northwestern Spain or that he was buried there. This film follows Vuysje as he walks from Amsterdam to Compostella to find the moving force behind the astonishing revival of the "Camino", the pilgrims' route to Compostella.
