Massaging the Elderly
While there are typical 20 year olds, there are no typical 75 year olds. They range all the way from the marathon runner to the helpless nursing home resident. The "elderly" also represent the "stepchildren" of the massage movement. This video deals with the needs of the person with age-related infirmities that are responsive to massage. Maintenance treatment of chronic conditions such as poor blood circulation, arthritis stiffness and pain, and foot and gait problems, are shown, as is supportive treatment during convalescence after surgery, hip replacement and stroke. Emphasis is on health assessment, on cautions, on contraindications and the need for medical approval and sometimes medical supervision.
