Dead Sea Scrolls

In spite of increasingly vehement protests from the world of science, a small group of Roman Catholic researchers monopolized the study of the Dead Sea Scrolls for decades. Previously, attention to the Scrolls focused on the scientific scandal surrounding them; now the focus is on the messages the Scrolls convey. Consulted are Emmanuel Tov, who presides over the worldwide research of the Scrolls, and Lawrence Schiffmann, who recognizes the Judiac influence of Christianity confirmed in the Scrolls. Most interesting is the study of Robert Eisenman, who broke the monopoly on the Scrolls and finds himself ostracized for his efforts.
